If you're having unsatisfactory results seeing other planes in P3DV4, it could be the AI aircraft set that you're using. I think a lot of us may be using the free offerings from WOAI or maybe some older payware packages such as TrafficX. Some online users have reported that aircraft have no landing gear, etc., and that appears to be related to older airframe models in those packages.
Boston Virtual ARTCC has a solution. They've released BVAI, a freeware package which shows all the wheels and such, is fully compatible with P3DV4 )as well as V3, V2 and V1, and FSX:SE). I believe you need to join BVARTCC - http://www.bvartcc.com/Home.aspx - to download the software but membership is free. It has a built-in update feature that makes staying up-to-date with model changes really easy.
