B747 farewell flight on SUNDAY Nov 5

Post by UAL001 Gary Price » Oct 20th, '17, 21:26

All,

As you know we are hosting the B747 flight from SFO to PHNL on SUNDAY Nov 5. There is a signup page on the main VUAL site.

In a former life I was a ZOA controller, and along with Chris I reached out to them for ATC coverage.

Here is a copy of the thread if you want to read up on their forum:

Oceanic will be online for this flight!!!! Sharpen up your position reports, and a special request: "download Hoppie CPDLC and not to be too drunk on the crossing"

see you at the gates at SFO on the 5th!!!

Is the event on Saturday, Nov. 4 or Sunday, Nov. 5?

Oakland posted the same question in their forum but I don't think it was answered.

Would highly suggest bringing extra fuel for this flight. Minimum sequencing across the ocean is 10 minutes on the same track/level. We'll try and separate it out between 300-370, so I would bring at least enough fuel to fly the entire way at 300, plus 45 mins taxi, plus 30 mins holding in HCF since they're going to be capacity restricted with all these heavies. Pref rote is normally R464 but if some can offload onto R463 (parallel track 60nm north), it would allow for more planes in the air toward HNL. Sounds like another United VA will also be flying this route at that time so wouldn't be surprised if there were some delays on the ground.

ZOA and Oceanic will both have Hoppie CPDLC going.

Look forward to seeing you all Sunday!

(This is not official ZOA communication, just tryna work out the logistics as someone thats gonna control that morning)

Thanks Gene!

I was only planning to load up on the adult beverages for this flight, so I'll adjust the fuel a little bit too...

I have no idea what Hoppie cpdlc is...

Napa valley wine is my guess, but i am sure it has something to do with airplanes..
